The right choice of a puppy depends on the choice of the breeder. No secret, there are untrustworthy sources of buying puppies. Do not be afraid to ask questions. A responsible breeder will encourage your questions. The more questions that you ask, the better informed you will be, and the better care you will be able to provide for the Maltese.
An ethical breeder screens his breeding stock for genetic disorders. If the breeder says that he does not have his dogs tested for genetically inherited diseases because there are no such problems in the line, it means the breeder is irresponsible. There is no such a thing as an accidental breeding with reputable breeders. And, if a breeder claims the litter is the result of an accidental breeding, it is an unreliable source from which to obtain a Maltese.
